The Sportski Centar Visnjik in Zadar witnessed an exhilarating display of athleticism and skill as the Badmintonski Klub Zadar hosted the “Badminton Za Sve – Zimsko Izdanje” tournament. With a total of 36 participants competing across categories including Men’s Singles (MS), Women’s Singles (WS), Men’s Doubles (MD), Women’s Doubles (WD), and Mixed Doubles (XD), the event marked a pivotal moment for Badminton in the region.
Embracing the motto “Add Badminton to Your Life,” the tournament aimed to not only celebrate the sport but also to integrate it into the lives of the locals. The turnout was remarkable, with players hailing from five different cities—Zadar, Split, Brač, Makarska, and Bjelovar—gracing the courts. Notably, a surge in participation from Zadar, the hometown of the organizers, was witnessed for the first time, underscoring their commitment to infuse Badminton into the city’s fabric.
An intriguing aspect of this edition was the inclusion of players who were not affiliated with any club, a move that aligns with our mission to broaden the sport’s reach. Badmintonski Klub Zadar’s efforts in promoting Badminton as a sport and raising awareness within Zadar were evident in this successful endeavor, marking their second triumph in this endeavor.
BK Iader emerged as the standout performer, both in terms of participation and medals earned, securing a staggering 14 medals. Their dominance continued with a total of 8 gold medals, reinforcing their prowess on the court. Following closely were BK Split and unaffiliated players, each claiming 6 medals each. When counting only gold medals, BK Iader led with an impressive tally of 8, while BK Zadar and BK Škrok secured 2 golds each.
The top three finishers in each category were honored not only with medals but also practical gifts, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere of the event. The support from sponsors—Meridian d.o.o, Cafe Galleria Gina, Badmintonski Klub Zadar, and friends of Badminton—ensured that both players and visitors were treated to refreshments throughout the tournament.
The event garnered attention beyond the courts, as Diadora TV covered the tournament, amplifying its reach. Comprehensive results are now available online, while captivating photos and videos from the event can be accessed through various social media channels and the tournament’s official website.
Expressing gratitude to all participants, visitors, and sponsors for their contributions, the organizers are already gearing up for an even grander tournament slated for April-May 2024. As the year draws to a close, the Badmintonski Klub Zadar extends warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year to all enthusiasts, eagerly anticipating a continued celebration of Badminton in the coming year.
